NEWTON & VICINITY

● Phillip J. Goering, 89, formerly of McPherson and now of Moundridge, brother of Arthur J. Goering of Newton, died April 17 at Memorial Home, Moundridge. Funeral services were held April 20 at First Mennonite Church, McPherson, with Ed R. Stucky officiating. Burial was in the McPherson Cemetery. He was a lifetime McPherson County resident and the retired owner of the former Goering Paint and Wallpaper Co. at McPherson. Other survivors include his wife, Martha C. (Kaufman); two sons, Kenneth and William, both of McPherson; five daughters, Valera White and Carolyn Becker, both of McPherson, Marilyn Becker of Moundridge, Joan Johnson of Rio Rico, Ariz., and Norma Moeller of Kansas City; two other brothers, John W. and Martin H., both of McPherson; four sisters, Bertha Kaufman and Lorene Stucky, both of Moundridge, Lillie Koller of North Lima, Ohio; and Ellen Schrag of Moundridge, 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
