JACOB A. GOERING

Jacob A. Goering, son of Andrew and Anna Wedel Goering, was born May 5, 1871, in Waldheim, Russia. In 1874, he came with his parents to America, settling in Turner county, South Dakota, where they lived for ten years. Because of the severe winters, they moved with a number of other families to Kansas, living in both McPherson and Reno counties where he continued his elementary schooling.

While living in McPherson county he received catechetical Instruction and was baptized by Elder Jacob Stucky upon confession of faith and received into the Hoffnungsfeld church on October 27, 1889. When the Eden church was organized he became a charter member, where he remained faithful until his death.

On April 5, 1894, he was united in marriage with Anna Kaufman by Rev. Valentine Krehbiel. This union was blessed with one son and three daughters, all of whom are living in the Moundridge community. They were privileged to share life's joys and sorrows for 56 years. They lived on the same farm near Moundridge for 53 years with the exception of one year spent in California.

Though rheumatism caused him much pain the last forty years, he bore his affliction without much complaint. In the latter years father spent many of his evenings in singing out of the "Gesangbuch mit Noten" and "Liederperle." He was of a sociable nature and enjoyed visiting with his large circle of friends. The departed one for years often expressed his desire to leave this world and be with the Lord. The family altar was never neglected and the spiritual welfare of his family was his great concern.

Even though his health was declining it was not until last Saturday evening that he suddenly became seriously ill and was taken to the Mercy hospital. He departed calmly in peace with his Lord on Sunday, April 30, at 9:30 p m., thus attaining the age of 78 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, one son, Ed, and three daughters, Hulda and Ruth of the home and Mrs. Clarence Schrag, one daughter-in- law, one son-in-law, six grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, one aunt, one uncle, and many other relatives and friends,

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Rom. 8:18.
