Christian H. Goebel

Christian H. Goebel, son of Christian and Anna Goebel, was born on December 19, 1869, at Summerfield, Ill. In 1881 he came to Kansas and made his home south of Moundridge. On April 27, 1884, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Rev. Valentine Krehbiel, and received into the membership of the Christian church. Later he transferred his membership to the Garden church, where he was a willing worker in Sunday School and prayer meetings. In 1898, when he settled upon his own farm near Deer Creek, Okla., he transferred his membership to the Deer Creek Mennonite Church.

From 1898 to 1899 he attended Bethel College. However, he took sick while in attendance at Bethel, and from then on began failing and later had to be taken to the Topeka state hospital in the year 1902, where he died September 5, 1931, at the age of 61 years. He leaves to mourn his departure two sisters, Mrs. P. C. Schowalter of Moundridge and Mrs. A. Auernheimer of Burrton, two brothers, John W. Goebel of Deer Creek, Okla., and P. A. Goebel of Cimarron, Kansas, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Garden Township Mennonite church Tuesday afternoon, September 8 at 2 o'clock with Rev. J. M Janzen and Rev. P. K. Regier in charge.
