Freak Balloon Mishap Takes Infant's Life
Berne, Ind. — A nine-month-old baby, Mahlon Girod, of the Amish community here lost his life April 30 when he swallowed a balloon, which lodged in his windpipe.
Efforts to remove the balloon and revive the baby proved unsuccessful.
The victim was the son of Mary and Stephen Girod, and grandson of Enos S. Girod and the Jacob X. Schwartzes. Two sisters also survive. Funeral services took place May 1.
