Catherine Gerber Gilliom

Catherine Gerber Gilliom was born in Langnau, Canton Bern, Switzerland, Feb. 25, 18356, and died in Pandora, Ohio, Nov. 11, 1927, at the very high age of ninety-two years, eight months and sixteen days.

At the age of sixteen years she emigrated to this country and lived in Wayne County, Ohio, until her marriage to John Gilliom on October 27, 1878. With this marriage she became the stepmother of Mr. Gilliom's five daughters, and for many years she labored very faithfully for the family. After the death of her husband, Oct. 29, 1901, she has made her home with her stepdaughter, Mrs. Dan Schumacher.

She united with the Mennonite church at an early age and has always remained a faithful member.

The nearest relatives surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Dan Schumacher and Mrs. P. P. Lugibihl, and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13, at the Grace Mennonite church, Rev. J. M. Regier officiating. interment at the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. — Pandora (Ohio) Times.

Katherina Gilliom

Berne, Ind., Nov. 14. — Word was received here Saturday of the death of the aged Katharina Gilliom, of Pandora, Ohio, formerly of this vicinity. She was the widow of John Gilliom, who many years ago used to live on the C. A. Neuenschwander farm a mile south of Berne. The aged Mrs. Gilliom, who was the deceased Mr. Gilliom's second wife, had lived on the farm near Berne and she is remembered by the older residents of the community.

Death took place at the home of a step-daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Shumaker in Pandora, O. for a number of years she has been feeble and affected with senility. Her death was hastened, however, through an injury which she suffered in a fall two weeks ago today, one of her hips was fractured.

Mrs. Gilliom, nee Katharina Gerber, was born on February 15, 1835, in Canton Bern, Switzerland. She was united in marriage with John Gilliom after the latter's loss of his first wife in 1876, who was Mary Ann Sprunger. Mr. Gilliom died on October 29, 1901, near Bluffton, Ohio. He was an uncle to the elder Gillioms who live in this community at present.
