MRS. SUE GILBERT

Sue (Unruh) Gilbert, daugher [sic] of Ben and Lena Becker Unruh, was born at Pawnee Rock, Kansas, on July 19, 1877, and passed from this life Dec. 29, 1946, at the Halstead hospital after an illness of several weeks duration.

In her girlhood she moved with her parents to Marion county, Kansas, and later returned to Pawnee Rock, where she was married to Fred Smith in 1903. Her first husband passed away in 1913. In 1916 she was united in marriage to Clay Gilbert. They moved to Western Kansas near Copeland in 1917, where they lived until Dec. 15, 1942, when they retired from the fam and moved back to Pawnee Rock. They built a home there.

Their devotion to each other has made their home a lovely place. Their kind hospitality made everyone feel welcome.

Early in life the deceased became a Christian and she was a zealous worker in the church and its various departments. She was a tireless worker in the Methodist church of which she was a member. Through the period of the building of the new church, particularly, she gave of her time and energy. The words of the Master on being faithful in the little things have been well applied in her life. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make the ruler over many. Enter into the joy of thy Lord.”

Those who are left to mourn her passing are her devoted companion; her daughter, Mrs. Wanda Caldwell of Reseda, Calif.; four brothers, Pete Unruh of Meno, Okla., Andrew Unruh of Winton, Calif., Abe Unruh of Montezuma, Ben Unruh of Easter, Okla.; five sisters, Mrs. Lydia French of Montezuma; Mrs. Eva Wedel, Mrs. Linda Johnson, Mrs. Lena Schmidt, and Mrs. Carolina Jantz, all of Goltry, Okla. Her father and mother, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
