DANIEL GIESBRECHT

Daniel Giesbrecht of Abbotsford, B.C. was born to John and Elizabeth (Krause) Giesbrecht in southern Russia on July 12, 1897, one of 13 children. His parents came to Canada in 1912, settling in Aberdeen, Sask. He followed them in 1913. Daniel accepted the Lord as his Saviour in his youth and was baptized and joined the fellowship of the Aberdeen Mennonite Brethren Church. He was married to Helena Martens on November 11, 1918 at Eigenheim, Sask. They remained in Saskatchewan until 1933 when they moved to Abbotsford. He was a farmer and labourer until his retirement. His health began to fail a year before he died and on March 3 the Lord took him home. Ministering at the funeral service at the Central Heights Church on March 13 were Rudy Boschman and Rey Nickel, ministers of the church.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1960 and leaves to mourn six sons, five daughters and their spouses: William and Esther, Vancouver; Menno and Alberta, Falkland; Herman and Betty, Westbank; Ben and Joyce, Abbotsford; Herb and Ruth, Surrey; and Walter and Mona, Kamloops; Mrs. Dan (Louise) Peters, Mrs. Bill (Olga) Meeks, Mrs. Tony (Tena) Nikkel, all of Abbotsford; Mrs. A. (Anne) Andruff, Spokane, Wash.; and Mrs. Roy (Ruby) Ruschhaupt, Kansas City, Mo.; and 34 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and three sisters.
