CORNELIUS GIESBRECHT

Cornelius "Con" Giesbrecht of Medicine Hat, Alta. passed away Apr. 23. He was born Aug. 30,1917 in Russia. The family immigrated to Canada. He married Sarah Redekopp of Big River, Sask. Nov. 2, 1941. They lived near Big River and Debden, Sask. until 1943, when they moved to Prince Albert, Sask. He worked at various jobs, with carpentry as his main interest. In 1961 they moved to Saskatoon, where he worked for Boychuk Construction. Due to ill health he moved to Calgary in 1969 and began working for the Workman's Compensation Board. He was transferred to Medicine Hat in 1973. In 1975 he returned to construction on work. He had a heart attack in 1979. He was not a man to sit still, so he took training and set up his own locksmith business. Ill health forced him to sell the business. After retirement he spent his hours helping family and friends with his many skills. He is survived by his wife; sons Rod of Canmore, Alta., Bernie of Port Coquitlam, B.C. and Brad of Saskatoon; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters. The funeral was Apr. 27 in Crestwood MB Church, Medicine Hat, with Mark Jantzen ministering.
