Elizabeth Gibb

Elizabeth Gibb was the oldest of twelve children born to Samuel and Martha (Hoffman) Ferguson on April 9, 1853, near Canal Winchester, Ohio. At the age of 10 she moved to Goshen, Ind., with her parents, and from there to Page county, Iowa, in 1866. Here in the parental home she was married to John Gibb in June, 1874; the same year they came to McPherson Co. Kansas, where they settled in meridian township. She was the mother of two children, Martha, who passed away in 1922 and Lee, of Limon, Colo.

For many years she made her home with her daughter and family, then due to poor health, she spent the last few years with her sister, Mrs. Conrad Holdeman, who patiently and tenderly cared for her. She spent the summer months with her son and family.

About 10 days ago she took sick and upon the advice of her doctor, she was removed to Bethesda hospital in Goessel, where she received the best of care. Here, on Thursday night, she was quietly called home by the Heavenly Father at at [sic] the age of 87 years, 9 months and 14 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing son Lee and family, son Lloyd Gibb Jenny; 3 sisters, Mrs. Sarepta Holdeman of Hesston and Mrs. Lean Horning of Blanchard, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Besides her daughter, two grandsons preceded her in death, namely Frank Rodgers and Ellis Lee Gibb.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour and was received as a member of the Pennsylvania Mennonite church, soon after coming to Kansas, in which faith she served her Lord until her death.

"Grandma", as she was affectionately called by her many friends, always had a smile for everyone. She was a faithful attendant at worship in God's house until failing health deprived her of this much enjoyed privilege. She was a constant source of inspiration to all, by her kindly attitude and thoughtfulness of others.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Pennsylvania Mennonite church with the Rev. Earl Buckwalter officiating, using the text Job. 5:26. He was assisted by Deacon G. A. Horst. The Buckwalter quartet sang several numbers. Pall bearers were John Grove, Howard Royer, Wm. Unholtz, Reuben Zimmerman, Clayton Zimmerman, and Ira Zook.

Interment was made in the meridian cemetery with Bergen and Son of Goessel in charge.
