MRS. ARTHUR GERING

Mrs. Arthur Gering passed from this life to her eternal reward on April 29 in the Mercy hospital at Williston, No. Dak. at the age of 57 years, one month, 22 days.

Lydia was born on March 6, 1897, to Mr. and Mrs. John J. Schwartz at Freeman, So. Dak. In 1910 at the age of 13 she came with her parents to Bloomfield, Montana.

On February 8, 1914, upon her confession of faith she was baptized and taken into the Bethlehem Mennonite church.

On February 15, 1918, she was married to Arthur Gering, and they made their home at Freeman, So. Dak., later moving to Montana on a farm. The family moved to Richey in 1939, and have since resided there.

About a year ago she noticed that she was failing in health. While at Washington visiting their two sons, one son leaving for Korea, she was taken seriously ill, having undergone a major operation for malignant tumor. The operation was a success, but she never fully recovered.

Surviving are her bereaved husband, Arthur, and three sons, Lloyd, Willis, and Percy and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Lloyd Gering and Mrs. Willis Gering, three grandsons, and 2 granddaughters. For 35 years she shared together with them many joys and sorrow.

Her aged father, John J. Schwartz, three brothers, Henry of Chicago, Ed and Hardwick of Richey, four sisters, Mrs. Fred Schultz of Bloomfield. Mrs. Herb Cayer of Savage, Mrs. Edward Preheim of Marion, So. Dak. and Mrs. Joe Delaney of Williston, No. Dak. also survive. Her mother preceded her in death by two months.

On May 3, 1953, funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Richey, Mont, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Ashworth, assisted by Rev. Geo. G. Dick of Bloomfeld,[sic Bloomfield] Mont, conducting the services. A men’s quartet composed of Melvin Schwartz, Myron Schultz, Charles Senner, Delmar Senner sang “Abide with Me,” and Mrs. Albert Janke and Mrs. Geo. Boese sang “The Home Over There” accompanied by Mrs. Ira Zuroff at the organ.

A service was also held at the Bethlehem Mennonite church by Rev. Geo. Dick assisted by Rev. Ashworth. The men’s quartet sang “Heartaches” and a duet by ladies who sang, “Meine heimat in der hoe” accompanied by Miss Marguerite Schultz at the piano. Out of town relatives and friends attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gering, Mrs. Roland Senner, Mrs. August Ortman, Mrs. Julius Prehiem[sic], Mr. and Mrs. Edward Preheim [sic Preheim] and family, all of South Dakota, the Delaneys of Williston, No. Dak., and Ludwig Schrag of North Dakota.

Pallbearers were Leon Schultz, Melvin Schwartz, Conrad Schwartz, Marles Preheim, Kenneth Weinke, and Robert Eggebreght. Buriel [sic] was at the Bethlehem cemetery. At the graveside Rev. Geo. Dick read a few verses from I Cor. 15, and a men’s quartet sang “Beyond the Sunset.” “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth, Yea: Says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours: for their works follow with them — The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
