MARTIN C. GERIG

Martin C. Gerig, son of Christian and Mary (Conrad) Gerig, was born June 6, 1886, at Henry county, Wayland, Iowa. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and joined the Mennonite church to which he remained faithful until death.

On Feb. 15, 1911, he was married to Emma Nofziger. This union was blessed with 12 children. During the past year his health began failing and Martin left this earthly life for his heavenly Home rather suddenly on the morning of March 1, 1960, at the age of 73 years, eight months and 25 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Simon and Christian, one sister, Barbara, and one daughter, Elsie.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, and 11 children; Mabel, Mrs. Ben Miller and C. Emanuel Gerig of Lebanon, Oregon; Frances, Mrs. Roman Yutzy of Kalona, Ia.; Mary of Sarasota, Fla.; Melvin Gerig of Wauseon, Ohio; Minnie, Mrs. Lloyd Chaffee of Castorland, N.Y.; Allen Gerig of Wayland, Ia.; E. Lavern Gerig, M.D. of Indianapolis, Ind.; Elmer and Willard Gerig of Albany, Ore.; and Emery of Salem, Ore. Also surviving are 41 grandchildren and five brothers and sisters, Henry and Mrs. D. A. Roth of Lebanon, Ore., Amos of Albany, Ore., Benjamin of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Mrs. Fannie Roth of Wayland, ia., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Mar. 4, at the Fairview Mennonite church in charge of Nick Birky and Neil Birky, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
