HENRY CONRAD GERIG

Henry Conrad Gerig was born Feb. 34, 1902 near Wayland, Ia., the youngest child of Christian Reck and Mary Conrad Gerig. He departed peacefully at the Lebanon Community Hospital to be with his Lord on Aug. 23, 1982 at the age of 80.

He moved to Oregon with his parents at the age of two, to live on a large farm eight miles east of Albany. When he was 15 he accepted Christ s his Savior, and was baptized by his father, C. R. Gerig, uniting with Fairview Mennnonite Church.

On Oct. 20, 1921 he married Bertha Boshart, with whom he shared 60 years. This union was blessed with four sons and four daughters. One son preceded him in death.

On Aug. 26, 1934 he was called to the ministry by the Fairview Mennonite Church, and served in that capacity for almost 30 years. He took his commitment seriously and spent many early-morning hours in study of the Bible and preparation for sermons.

Slightly more than 20 years ago, they moved to Lebanon and he retired from active ministry at Fairview. Since then he fellowshipped with the Lebanon Mennonite Church rather than drive past one fellowship each Sunday to worship with another.

He was a loving, caring father and was always concerned with the welfare of his children. He was happiest when he could be with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha, daughters, Marjorie Nofziger. Shirley Call and Grace Miller, all of Lebanon, and Virginia Gerig of Long Beach, Calif., sons, Henry C., Jr., of Lebanon, Paul of Portland and Rex of Milwaukee. 22 granchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ben of Santa Rosa, Calif.
