CHRIS. R. GERIG, EIGHTY-SIX YEAR OLD MINISTER, DIED IN OREGON ON MARCH 9

Albany, Oregon. — Christian R. Gerig, 86, a retired Mennonite minister and farmer, died at the home of his son, Henry Gerig at 12:30 p. m. March 9.

He was born April 8, 1855, in Alsace-Lorraine and from there came to the United States with his parents in 1864, locating in Wayne county, Ohio. From there he went in 1876 to Henry county, Ia., then going to Oregon in 1904, locating in Linn county, where he has since made his home. He was married February 7, 1878 at Wayland, Iowa to Mary B. Conrad, who died March 13, 1914. He was married again December 1, 1916, in Albany to Anna K. Roth, who survives him.

He was ordained as a deacon in Iowa in 1887 and minister in 1889. He was ordained as bishop of Fairvew church of Albany in 1907. he had been active as a minister until a few years ago.

Services were held at the Henry Gerig home followed by services at the Fairview church. Services were in charge of Rev. N. M. Birky and assisted by Rev. E. W. Kulp of Bally, Pa. Interment was made at the Riverside cemetery.
