A. L. Gerber

Abraham L. Gerber, son of Ulrich and Anna Lehman Gerber was born June 12, 1849, four miles south of Dalton, Ohio, close to Boone's school, and died May 6, 1933. Mr. Gerber lived on the same farm all his life, for 83 years, 10 months, 24 days.

October 9, 1879, he was united in marriage to Barbara (Abr. P.) Moser. To this union were born nine children, seven grew to maturity. Verena, died at the age of 16; Simon of Apple Creek, Alice, at home with mother, Martha, (Mrs. Joel Zuercher), Dalton; Martin, died at the age of 5 days, Menno, of Orrville, Adam , of Dalton, Andrew, of Wooster, and Ida (Mrs. Adam Hofstetter), on the home farm. There are 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Betty Jane Zuercher.

Together they shared life's joys and sorrows for 53 years, forty years of farming and 13 years of retired life. He was a member of the Sonnenberg Mennonite church, and above everything believed Jehovah the true God and Jesus Christ as His redeemer, and the Resurrection which is provided for mankind.

He was always a generous giver and gave a helping hand wherever he saw it necessary and possible. On the way to the burial grounds an aged pedestrian was passed with whom father often shared many deeds of kindness. This made us think of the proverb which reads that when a man dies he will take along only that which he gave during life. If measured by this quotation father did not die a poor man. — Written by the family.

Rev. Jacob Moser had charge of the service in church.
