Oklahoma Pioneer Dies at Goessel

Goessel, Kan. — Henry J. Gaeddert, 82, passed away at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel Wednesday, Dec. 24. He had been taken to the hospital from the Bethesda Home about a week earlier.

Born May 16, 1876, in Russia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gaeddert, he came to this country at the age of three and lived in Marion county, Kansas until 1894 when he homesteaded in Oklahoma. In 1920 he sold out and moved back to Kansas, living in Thomas County until January 1954, when he came to the Bethesda Home in Goessel.

In 1903 he married Caroline Gorshing who passed away in 1911. He then married Maria Unruh in 1912 who passed away in 1914.

Survivors include one son, William of Oakley; one son-in-law, Dan Schmidt of Walton; and grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Goessel and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Herold Mennonite Church near Cordell, Okla. with Rev. Richard Tschetter officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
