PETER D. FUNK

Peter D. Funk, son of Peter H. and Katarina (Dyck) Funk, was born on Sept. 7, 1886 at Hillsboro, Kan.

He was received into the Bruderthal Mennonite Church on June 16, 1906, when upon the confession of his faith he was baptized by Rev. William Ewert. Also baptized on this date and in the same church was Miss Bertha Nickel, who became his bride on Oct. 27, 1910. The couple made their home on a farm in the Bruderthal community and engaged in farming. Five children, Harold, Linda, Pete, Anne and George, were born to this union.

In 1937 Mr. Funk gave up his farming operations and with his family moved to Hillsboro. Here they lived for one year; then they moved to Wichita where they resided for two years before moving back to Hillsboro. Mr. Funk worked in the local creamery until he retired. After moving to Hillsboro, both Mr. and Mrs. Funk transferred their membership to the First Mennonite Church on March 18, 1951.

The couple were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 30, 1960, having also celebrated their 25 th anniversary 25 years earlier.

On Feb. 5, 1967 the union was broken when Mrs. Funk was called to her eternal reward after having been confined for many months to Salem Hospital, suffering patiently from the effects of a paralytic stroke. Mr. Funk then made his home at the Home for the Aged in Hillsboro, where he lived until the time of his departure. He passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 1969.

Mr. Funk was a man of friendly disposition who like people and enjoyed visiting with them. He was deeply concerned for the welfare and needs of his family.

Besides his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Linda; a son, Harold, who passed away less than two months ago; and one granddaughter, Twila.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are: son Peter and wife Louise of Goessel; daughter Anne and husband John Jaworsky of Hillsboro; son George and wife Maymie Lou of Terre Haute, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Funk; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. — The Family.
