KATHARINA (SCHMIDT) FUNK

Mrs. Paul K. Funk, nee Katharina F. Schmidt, Goessel, Kan., daughter of Johann and Helena (Funk) Schmidt, was born Oct. 1, 1898 in Marion County, Kan.

On May 13, 1917, she was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, with Elder P. H. Unruh officiating. She was a faithful member.

On March 26, 1919 she was married to Paul K. Funk, with the Rev. P. P. Buller officiating. They moved to a farm five miles southwest of Hillsboro. To this union were born four children. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in March of 1944. In 1951 they moved to Goessel. It was not long belore she found an opportunity for service at the Busthead Home.

In 1960 it became apparent that her health was failing, and medical aid was sought. About two years ago she submitted to surgery, but her condition became gradually worse, so that hospitalization was required for eight months, after which she spent a month at home. On Nov. 4, 1964 she re-entered the hospital, where she spent the remaining days of her life. Despite suffering, her faith in God did not waver. She went to her eternal reward on Dec. 29, having reached the age of 66 years.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of her life are her husband Paul, Goessel; four children, Elmer and wife Lucilla, and Roy and wife Mary Ann, all of Rt. 1 Hillsboro; Hilda and her husband Eldon Knak, Hillsboro, and Lenora and husband Willard Gehring, Moundridge; 19 grandchildren; two brothers, Gerhard of Gooses and Herman of Newton; four sisters, Lena, Mrs. P. V. Unrau, Chouteau, Okla.; Anna, Mrs. Adolph Schmidt, Goessel; Agnes, Mrs. H. Y. Schmidt, Newton, and Elizabeth, Mrs. P. I. Goertz, Rt. !, Lehigh; and many relatives and friends. Her parents, one grandchild, her brothers Simon, John and William, and sister Martha preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 31 at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Rev. Aaron Epp officiating, assisted by Rev. P. A. Wedel. Burial was in the church cemetery. — The Paul K. Funk Family.
