ABRAM H. FUNK

Abram H. Funk, son of Heinrich and Maria Funk, was born August 27, 1877 in the village of Alexandertal, Molotshna, Russia. At the age of 18, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and shortly thereafter was baptized and accepted into the M.B. church, remaining its faithful member to the end of his life.

1903 he found his life's partner in Aganetha Toews, who died in 1915. In November 1918 he married the widow Justina Toews, nee Epp.

The family emigrated to Mexico in 1926 but after a brief stay of three months they returned to Canada. In April 1927 they moved onto a farm near Horndean, Man., joining the M.B. Church of Grossweide. After 24 years, in November, 1951, the Funks moved to Winkler. Mrs. Funk was called home to be with the Lord the following year.

Now years of loneliness followed for Bro. Funk. He greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the believers and seldom missed a meeting. The salvation of his children and grandchildren was his great concern.

The last weeks of his life were spent at the Tabor Home in Morden. On June 23 the Lord called him home. He reached the age of nearly 87 years.

Two children predeceased him in early infancy and another son (Henry) at the age of 35 years. He leaves to mourn his death, two sons, Isaac and Abram, and two daughters, Nettie (Mrs. George Rempel) and Justina (Mrs. George Neufeld), as well as 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Winkler Church on June 28th with Rev. J. J. Neufeld, Winnipeg and Rev. John Goossen of Manitou officiating. Interment in Winkler cemetery.
