SELMA S. FRIESEN

Selma S. Friesen, daughter of Peter C. and Kathrina Doell Friesen, was born April 26, 1909 near Henderson, Neb.

She received her elementary and secondary education in the Henderson schools. Upon graduation she attended Bethel College one year, and two semesters at nurses training school at York Lutheran Hospital.

On May 12, 1929, she was baptized by Rev. H. A. Fast, and became a member of the Bethel College Church, North Newton, Kan. The following year she united with the Bethesda Mennonite Church of Henderson, Neb., of which she remained a faithful member until her Master called her home.

On Sept. 20, 1931 she was united in marriage to John R. Friesen. They were permitted to share their joys and sorrows together for almost 30 years. This union was blessed with five children, three daughters and two sons.

In 1937, mother realized her lost condition without Christ during revival meetings held in the Henderson community, and accepted Christ as her own personal Savior.

The family was engaged in business in the Henderson community until June, 1951. Then they moved to the Geneva community where they are in business at the present time.

Mother had been in failing health for the past year. For the last nine weeks she had been confined to hospital care. She bore her illness courageously. She was called to her heavenly home on April 20, 1961 at the age of 51 years, 11 months and 25 days.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, John R. Friesen; two daughters and their husbands, Velda and Keith Decker of Davenport, Neb. and Marilyn and Leroy Bartel of Geneva, Neb.; two sons, Quinton John and Anton Norris of the home; one granddaughter, Stephanie Kay Bartel; her father and step-mother, the Peter C. Friesens; one sister, Ada, Mrs. A. A. Peters; one brother, Waldo Friesen; two step-brothers and three step-sisters; two uncles, I. J. Friesenand P. J. Doell; one aunt, Mrs. H. A. Peters; and a host of relatives and friends.

Those preceding her in death are one daughter, Glenda Mae Friesen, who passed away almost eight years ago; a brother, Walter Friesen; a sister, Rosie; and her mother, Kathrina Doell Friesen.
