Steinbach Business Man Called

Altona, Manitoba. — An audience estimated at 2.000 persons gathered at the E. M. B. church of Steinbach on Aug. 10 to pay last respects to Jacob R. Friesen, 72, pioneer Steinbach businessman and founder of the J. R. Friesen and Son firm there. The services were in charge of Rev. G. S. Rempel.

Born at Steinbach on Oct. 31, 1878, Mr. Friesen opened the first garage there on 1903. In 1912 he was granted the Ford dealership and was one of the few original dealers still living. Since his retirement seven years ago his son, Edwin, has been in charge of the business.

He passed away at the Winnipeg General hospital on Aug. 6. Surviving are his second wife, Anna, four daughters and two sons.
