NEWS-BRIEFS FROM CANADA

— A deep tragedy came upon the Jacob J. Friesen family of Manitoba, Canada, on August 14, when Mrs. Friesen was killed in a runaway while out in the field helping with the harvest. having finished her duties at home over the noon hours, she went out to again shock wheat while her husband was running the binder. After a while a heavy rain cloud appeared in the sky. Mr. Friesen stopped to remove the canvas from the upper elevator in order to use it as a shelter in the approaching rain. Evidently the removal of the elevator frightened the horses and they began running in the direction where Mrs. Friesen was setting up the bundles. Making an unsuccessful attempt to head them off, Mrs. Friesen came under their feet and was run over with the binder. When Mr. Friesen came to the scene he found her lifeless body. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 17, the attendance being one of the largest of any funeral held there in recent years.
