JACOB G. FRIESEN

Jacob G. Friesen was born in Terek, South Russia on June 27, 1903. As a young man he aspired to be a teacher but these plans had to be changed when the Bolshevik Revolution terminated his high school education. He accepted Christ as his Saviour in 1923 and joined the Mennonite Brethren church at Tiege, Molotchna. In 1924 his family emigrated from Russia and came to Canada settling in Ontario. In 1929 he was married to Susie Dick. They lived in Waterloo, Winona and then Virgil, where they farmed for thirty years. The Lord blessed their marriage with seven children. He was an active church worker through the years, for a long time as church treasurer, also as member of the Board of Trustees and for the last few years as adult Bible class teacher. He went to be with the Lord on December 6, 1965, at the age of 62 after prolonged illness. "This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom" (Isaiah 28:29). He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. John(Hedy) Enns of Brazil, Mrs. Vern (Margaret) Born of Kelowna, B.C., and Edith at home; and four sons, Henry of Winnipeg, Alfred of St. Catharines, Ont., Ernest of Kenya, Africa, and Herbert at home.
