— Henry Frey, 80, passed away in his sleep Monday night at the home on East Second street. Funeral services have been announced for Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the Zion Mennonite church, Elbing, with burial in the Tabor cemetery north of Newton. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Frank K. Schmidt, Mrs. Elmer W. Schmidt, Mrs. John A. Schroeder of Canton, E. H. Frey of North Newton, Alfador Frey of Newton, Mrs. Hugo Buller and Mrs. Ralph Schroeder of Hillsboro.

HENRY FREY

Our dear husband and father, Henry Frey, was born April 27, 1871, at Alexanderwohl, South Russia. He was the son of Benjamin and Maria (Wedel) Frey. At the age of three years he came with his parents to America, locating on a farm north of Newton, Kansas near the present site of Goessel.

On Pentecost day, 1890, he was baptized upon confession of his faith in Christ and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church.

On January 19, 1895, he was united in holy wedlock to Eva Balzer. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom two preceded their father in death in infancy.

In 1921 he was ordained as deacon of the Tabor church. He held this office until he transferred his membership to the Alexanderwohl church. For a number of years he was associated with the Bethesda hospital in the capacity of board member and solicitor. He served as Sunday school teacher wherever he was called upon.

In the year 1936, on November 3, our mother passed away. They Lord provided another helpmate for him in Elise K. Regier of Elbing, who has been a loving mother to the children. In January 1938 he transferred his membership to the Zion church at Elbing, where he remained a faithful member until his passing.

During his sickness he was greatly concerned for the spiritual welfare of his family. he always found comfort in singing and prayer.

During his last year, father had a heart ailment and hardening of the arteries. He quietly passed away early in the morning on February 19, at the age of 80 years, nine months and 24 days.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Slise [sic Elise] K. Frey; seven children Louise and Frank Schmidt, Ed and Auguste Frey, Alfador and Mary Frey, Linda and Elmer W. Schmidt, Martha and Hugo Buller, Bertha and John A. Schroeder, Ruth and Ralph Schroeder; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Rev. J. B. Frey of Cornville, Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Henry Balzer and Mrs. John Becker, both of Newton, Kansas, and many other relatives and friends. — Mrs. Elise K. Frey and children.
