— A largely attended funeral took place Monday forenoon at the Bethel College Church, when services were held for Mrs. E. H. Frey on North Newton. Mrs. Frey suffered a stroke on Thursday evening, March 18, at the home and was taken to Bethel Deaconess Hospital where she died within a short time. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Esko Loewen and Rev. H. B. Schmidt of Deer Creek, Okla., and was followed by burial in the Tabor Church Cemetery. Mrs. Frey, the former Augusta Neufeld, was married to E. H. Frey at Goessel in 1924. They lived on a farm near Goessel until 1951, when they moved to North Newton. Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two sons, Raymond of rural Hillsboro and Marlin of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Hershel Critchfield of North Newton and Mrs. Duane Chambers of Newton; 10 grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.

MRS. AUGUSTA FREY

Augusta (Neufeld) Frey was born on July 18, 1903 near Goessel, Kan. to Abraham and Elizabeth Neufeld. She passed away on March 18, 1971, having reached the age of 67 years and eight months.

She was baptized upon confession of faith into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church by Rev. P. H. Unruh in May of 1919.

On Oct. 18, 1924 she was united in marriage to Edward H. Frey. She later joined the Tabor Mennonite Church where Edward was a member. After moving to North Newton they joined the Bethel College Mennonite Church, where she was a faithful member until her death. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union.

Survivors include her husband; the children, Raymond and wife LuEtta of Route 2, Hillsboro, Earla and husband Hershel Critchfield of Route 2, Newton, Marlin and wife Deane of Newton, Nila and husband Duane Chambers of Newton; 10 grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Ann and husband Herb Peters of Lehigh, Mary and husband Sam Schroeder of McPherson, Otto Neufeld and wife Mildred of Lehigh, Abe Neufeld and wife Eva of Hutchinson, and Mrs. Bill (Mabel) Neufeld of Peabody. Two brothers, Bill and Jacob, preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

She was always greatly concerned about the welfare of her children and grandchildren. She also was much interested in music. Often she would say “Play some of our good records again,” which we would listen to over and over. — E. H. Frey and Family.
