Former NSBRO Sec. Called In Death

Akron, Pa. — Paul Comly French, 57, died on June 2 at his home in Yardley, Pa. Mr. French will be remembered by former CPS men as Executive Secretary of the National Service Board for Religious Objectors during World War II.

The New York Times obituary included the following: “A native of Philadelphia, he was a descendant of Quakers who emigrated to this country in 1690, and was reared in the faith of the Society of Friends, emphasizing service to others as the keynote of life . . . . Mr. French visited more than 50 countries, and in 1950 wrote to The New York Times, 'I am convinced that the world cannot have peace and security while people are hungry.' He testified before the agricultural committee of the House of Representatives, urging that farm surpluses be made available to American private relief agencies for use overseas.”
