• Funeral services for Anna Franzen, 81, who died April 1 at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, were held Saturday afternoon at the Goessel Mennonite Church. Rev. Levi Koehn, the pastor, officiated. Miss Franzen was born near Goessel and lived in that community most of her life. She worked in hospitals at Goessel, McPherson and Abilene, and also did private nursing. She leaves three brothers, Henry of Topeka, John of Goessel, and Gerhard of Route 2, Canton; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Klassen of Route 2, Canton.

ANNA FRANZEN

Anna Franzen, daughter of Heinrich and Elizabeth Wedel Franzen, was born March 8, 1883, in the parental home four miles north of Goessel, Kan., where she spent her early youth on the farm.

On May 26, 1901, she was baptized by Rev. Peter Balzer and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. She transferred her membership to the Goessel Mennonite Church on June 1, 1952, where she was a faithful member until she passed away on April 1, 1964.

She worked in the Bethesda Hospital several years after which she went to DuBois, Idaho, where she homesteaded and lived a number of years. On returning from Idaho she worked in the McPherson County Hospital, and later the Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

In 1925, when her sister-in-law, Mrs. Gerhard Franzen, passed away, she assumed the duties of a mother to Gerhard's children. For the next 16 years she worked to help raise these children in the way of the Lord. Reflecting upon the years that their Aunt Anna spent with them, these children are all deeply appreciative of the lasting value they received from her teachings.

Upon retiring, she moved to Goessel, making her home with Anna Franz until moving to the Bethesda Home where she lived somewhat over a year. She passed away on April 1 at the Bethesda Hospital, having reached the age of just a little over 81 years.

Survivors include three brothers, Henry of Topeka, John of Goessel, Gerhard of Canton; one sister, Mrs. John Klassen of Canton, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held April 4 at the Goessel Mennonite Church. — The Family.
