• Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Franz, 67, wife of Herman C. Franz, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Halstead First Mennonite Church by the pastor, Rev. Arnold E. Funk. Mrs. Franz did April 15 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital here after a six-week illness. A resident of Halstead for many years, she had lived at Sedgwick the past six months. She was the mother of Donald Franz of Sedgwick; Mrs. Betty Bodin of Mission, and Mrs. Mary Lou Duerksen, wife of Dr. Joseph Duerksen, Champa, India. Also surviving are her husband, three brothers, two sisters and seven grandchildren.

MARY E. FRANZ

Mrs. Mary E. Franz, a resident of the Halstead, Kan. community since 1936 prior to moving to Sedgwick six months ago, passed away at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton on Wednesday morning April 15, following a six-week illness.

Born March 12, 1897 near Moundridge, Kan., the daughter of John and Mary Regier Fast, she was 67 years, one month and three days old at the time of her death.

She married Herman C. Franz on Aug. 9, 1922 at Hutchinson, Kan. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Halstead.

Survivors include her husband Herman, one son, Donald L. of Sedgwick; two daughters, Mrs. Betty (Edwin) Bodin of Mission, Kan. and Mrs. Mary Lou (Joseph) Duerksen of Champa, India; three brothers, Jake Fast of Buhler, Pete of Marionville, Mo., and Ben Fast of Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Sue Enns of Guymon, Okla., and Mrs. Elizabeth Wedel of Salem, Ore., and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 19, at the First Mennonite Church in Halstead with Rev. Arnold E. Funk officiating. Burial was in the Halstead cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Christian Hospital, Champa, India, through the First Mennonite Church.
