HAROLD M. FLY

Harold M. Fly, 76, of Telford, Pa., died Sept. 3, 1997, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill.

Born in Souderton, he was a son of the late Joseph G. and Estellla (Metzger) Fly. He graduated from the former Sellersville-Perkasie High School in 1939 and received training at Ontario Mennonite Bible Institute.

He served as deacon of Finland Mennonite Church and was later ordained to the pastorate at Steel City Mennonite Church near Bethlehem. He and his wife, Mary, served as steward and matron of the former Franconia Mission of Mercy, currently Indian Creek Foundation, in the late 1950s. He also pastored Towamencin Mennonite Church from 1965 to 1971 and from 1976 to 1988. He most recently completed an interim pastorate at Cedar Hill Mennonite Church of Elizabethtown.

He was an advisory member of the former Northern Light Missions, currently Impact North Ministries Missions of Red lake, Ont. He served with the Montgomery County Opportunity Board and was an adviser to Women's Aglow Fellowship. He traveled throughout six continents, encouraging Christian missionary endeavors. He was a member of Towamencin Mennonite Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Landis), in 1985. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Shantz and husband Merle of Red Lake, Ont.; two sons, Maurice L. of Telford and Mark L. and wife Ruth Ann of Sellersville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Dorothy Frankenfield of Hilltown and Margaret Cressman of Levittown; and two brothers, Donald Fly and wife Betty F. of Souderton and Lawrence Fly and wife Betty C. of Hatfield.
