Pioneer Immigrant From Russia Dies

Kingman, Kan. — John Flickner, 96, who was among the pioneer immigrants from Russia in the 1870s and a resident of the Almeda community south of here for 55 years, died at a Cunningham rest home on Nov. 4.

Coming to this country with his parents as a lad, Mr. Flickner first lived in McPherson County and later at Pretty Prairie, where he was married to Fanny Preheim in 1886. They moved to the Almeda community in 1906, and Mrs. Flickner died in 1937.

Survivors include three sons, three daughters, a sister, Mrs. Dan Graber of DeRidder, la., 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Kignman Mennonite Church, with Rev. Peter Neufeld and Rev. P. P. Tschetter officiating.
