MRS. E. E. FLICKNER

Alma Bertha (Wedel) Flickner, daughter of Peter H. and Katharina (Schrag) Wedel, was born on March 23, 1897. She received her elementary education at the Pioneer Elementary School and was graduated from Moundridge High School in 1916.

On Oct. 6, 1912 She was baptized by Rev. C. J. Goering and joined the Eden Mennonite Church. She was active in her church as long as her health permitted and remained a faithful member until her death.

On April 21, 1918, she was married to Edmund Flickner with whom she shared life’s joys and sorrows for 49 years, seven months, and 21 days. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1967. This union was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters.

The family home was established on a farm near Moundridge, Kan. Here they lived and worked together for approximately forty years. In 1958 she and her husband took over the responsibilities as administrator and matron of the Memorial Home for the Aged. After this service they retired to make their home in Moundridge.

The last years of her life were spent as a resident of the Memorial Home and later in the home of her elder daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Seewald.

She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and spent endless hours working among her flowers and in her garden, and thus nature served her as a source of inspiration and communication with her God.

The last years of her life were spent in much pain and intense suffering, and on Jan. 18, 1970 she passed on to be with her Lord

She is survived by two daughters, LaRita and husband Shelby Seewald of Moundridge, and Delma and husband Gene Powers of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons Eldon and wife Esther of Moundridge, Arlo and wife Geneva of McPherson, Galen and wife Doris of Moundridge; three sisters, Mrs. Edward P. Goering, Mrs. C. D. Kaufman, and Mrs. Jacob A. Wedel, all of Moundridge; two brothers, Helmuth Wedel and Christian P. Wedel, Moundridge; 12 grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Lucinda, one son-in-law, Arlis Schrag, three grandchildren, three sisters and her parents.
