• Funeral services were held at the Alexanderwohl church near Hillsboro on June 4 for Peter A. Flaming, 88, a native of South Russia and pioneer settler in Marion County who died June 1 at the Bethesda Hospital, Goessel. He had lived at the Bethesda Home since 1960. Mrs. Leonhard Buller and Pete Flaming, both of Newton, are among the nine surviving children.

PETER A. FLAMING

Peter A. Flaming, 88, an early day resident of the Hillsboro, Kan. community, died Monday morning, June 1, at Bethesda Hospital, Goessel. He had been a Bethesda Home resident since 1960.

Mr. Flaming was born in the village of Shardaw, Ukraine, South Russia on July23, 1875. With his parents, Abraham and Helena Janzen Flaming, he came to the Hillsboro-Goessel community which was his home until his death.

On June 26, 1898 he married Louise Penner and 11 children were born to them, nine of whom are still living. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1948 before her death on Feb. 14, 1952.

Mr. Flaming spent his lifetime on the farm. After his wife's death he lived alone for a few years and spent some time with his children before moving to Bethesda Home.

He had been in failing health and entered the hospital May 26.

Funeral services were conducted June 4 in the Alexanderfeld Church of Hillsboro where he had been a member since 1905. Pastor Jona Deck officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Survivors are his nine children: Mrs. Helen Jantz, Livingston, Calif.; Mrs. Isaac Ensz, Inman; Mrs. D. Paul A. Williams, Ventura, Calif.; Mrs. Leonhard Buller, Newton; Mrs. Fred Ritter, Santa Cruz, Calif.; Mrs. John Gnista, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Pete Fleming, Newton; Mrs. Otto Ebel, San Jose, Calif.; Abe P. Fleming, Reedley, Calif.

A sister, Mrs. Lena Seibel of Medford, Okla. also survives, with 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
