C. F. Flaming

Our father, C. F. Flaming, was born on the twenty-first of May, in 1865, in the village of Pragenau, South Russia. In 1886 he came over to the United States and settled down at Walldec [sic'Waldeck], Kansas. When he was twenty-three years old he was united in marriage to Mary Wedel on the 17th day of November, 1889. In 1894 they settled at Lehigh, Kansas. To this union four children were born, Peter and Mary preceeded [sic] him in death and Cornelius and Sara are still living. He lived happily with his first wife until she went to her heavenly home, thus leaving our father and two children to mourn.

On May 21, 1907 our dear father united in marriage to Mable [sic Mabel] Wall, his second wife. To this union were born eight children, George, Ann, Kathryn, Mary, Malinda and Daniel still living, Herman and Jacob also preceeded [sic] our father in death. We had a happy home until on the 12th of November at 10:55 A. M. when our dear father went to get his mail, and was accidently killed when he was passing in front of the Lehigh depot. The Santa Fe freight train struck him and killing him instantly. The body was mangled so that identification was practically impossible. Our father arrived at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his sudden and unexpected death, his beloved wife and eight children, 1 brother, and 32 nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
