Gap, Pa. — The death of the aged Samuel L. Fisher of rural Kinzer on March 25 removed one of those who helped maintain the tradition of singing from the Ausbund in the Amish church.
Bro. Fisher was well-versed in the tunes of the Ausbund, historic hymnbook dating back to the time of the Swiss Brethren. For some 15 years before his death, members of the Ira Stoltzfus district gathered regularly at the Fisher home usually every other Tuesday evening, to practice the old hymn tunes.
He was the last of a large family, and reared a family of 10 sons and four daughters.
