JOHN FIELITZ

John Fielitz, son of John and Marie (Myer) Fielitz, was born May 5, 1888, near Riga, Mich. He departed from this life at the William's [sic Williams] County General Hospital on Feb. 4, 1971 at the age of 82 years and nine months. On Jan. 27 he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage which caused his death with days later.

On Feb. 1, 1914 re [sic] was united in marriage with Verna Graber by Bishop E. L. Frey at the Lockport Mennonite Church. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for 57 years. Their home was blest with five sons and two daughters.

He is survived by his loving companion; four sons, Gaylord, Dale and Archie, all of Archbold, O. and John Junior of the home; two daughters, Orpha, Mrs. Roy Klopfenstein and Waneta [sic Wanetta], Mrs. Willard Rufenacht, both of Archbold, O.; also 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Fielitz, and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Murry [sic Murray], Mrs. Anna Rex, and Hattie, Mrs. Clarence Rolfus [sic Rolfes], all of Toledo, O., and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters, three half-brothers and three half-sisters.

As a young man he took up the occupation of farming and livestock raising, which he enjoyed and in which he continued for his entire life. The farm home is near Stryker, O.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and was greatly endeared to his grandchildren. He continued to be deeply interested in the welfare of his family. He lived a quiet, unassuming, yet exemplary, life and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

In March 1913 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and by confession of faith and water baptism was received into the Lockport Mennonite Church and served as a faithful member until death. He will be greatly missed in his home and in the church, where his place was seldom vacant.

Funeral services were conducted at the Lockport Church on Sunday, Feb. 7, 1971, Walter Stuckey and Art Zehr officiating. Burial was made in Lockport Cemetery.
