Tragedies Reported From Paraguay

ACCIDENTS CLAIM TWO LIVES; CHILD RESCUED OUT OF DEEP WELL

Philadelphia, Paraguay. — Besides having to endure many pioneer hardships, Chaco settlers are often confronted with heart-breaking tragedies.

Dietrich A. Neufeld of Neuanlage village recently drowned in the Paraguay river as he was on the way home from Asuncion, where he had gone for medical treatment. The accident happened at night, Neufeld apparently falling overboard from the river boat. Immediate searching was of no avail and the body, evidently carried down stream, was not recovered.

In the Sommerfeld hospital, the 15 year old son of Bernhard S. Fehr died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in his abdomen, three hours after attempts to save his life through an operation.

In the same village a two year old child fell into a 21-ft. well, but was fortunately saved and recovered rom the harrowing experience without any harmful effects.
