LIZZIE KOOP FAST

Mrs. Lizzie Koop Fast, daughter of Peter and Sarah Koop, was born on Dec. 7, 1893 at Hillsboro, Kan. In the providence of God He called her to Himself on Feb. 12, 1970 at the age of 76 years, two months and five days. Her husband preceded her into Glory by 11 months.

Lizzie Koop was married to Henry Fast in 1912 at Fairview, Okla. This union was blessed with five children. The family home was in San Jose, Calif.

The children are Mrs. Alvina Fast Boese and family and Miss Selma Fast, all of San Jose, Calif., Victor H. Fast and family of Colorado Springs. Colo., Arthur H. Fast and family of Brea, Calif, and Mrs. Prescilla Fast Jazen [sic Priscilla Fast Janzen] and family of Aurora, Neb.

Twelve grandchildren survive with the following brothers and sisters: Jack Koop, Abe Koop, and Mrs. Marie Foth, all of Fresno, Calif., Dan Koop, Sam Koop, Ernest Koop and Mrs. Florence Friesen, all of Los Angeles, Mrs. Sarah Heinrichs of Lamar, Mo., and Mrs. Bertha Gibson of Stockton, Calif.

As a teenager Mrs. Fast made a public confession of faith in Christ as Savior by baptism on April 16, 1906, becoming a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview, Okla.

Her children remember her for her cheerful disposition even during difficult years and physical limitations. She supported her husband in his Gideon ministries by serving as a Gideon Auxiliary member. She served actively in church sewing circles. Her daily practice of Scripture memory and untiring daily prayer for the children have left indelible impressions on the family. Church attendance was regular and punctual. One of her favorite Scriptures was Psalm 91.

Mother’s departure came unexpectedly following a stroke. We have the assurance that to be present with the Lord is far better.

Funeral services were conducted on Feb. 16 at the Lincoln Glen Mennonite Brethren Church, San Jose, by Rev. Harold Schroeder and Rev. Estile Schale. — The Family.
