Tractor Accident Takes Life of John H. Fast, Mt. Lake.

Mt. Lake, Minn., Oct. 24. — John H. Fast, prominent Midway township farmer, was fatally injured late Tuesday afternoon, when he fell backwards from his tractor, and was struck by a lug on the left rear wheel of the machine. His skull was crushed, and his right eye pierced out, and he did not regain consciousness.

The accident occurred between 4:30 and 5:00 o'clock, and he was rushed to the Bethel hospital here, where every effort was made to save his life, but death came about nine o'clock.

Mr. Fast was towing logs in his grove, and was backing up with his tractor, a 10-20 McCormick-Deering about seven years old, when suddenly the spring seat broke, and he fell over backwards, directly in the path of the heavy rear tractor wheel. It is thought that one of the lugs struck him, and Harry Goertsen, who is employed at the Fast farm, says that the front wheels passed over his employer's legs. He ran to his assistance immediately, and with the aid of other persons from the house, carried the injured man to the yard, and made him as comfortable as possible until physicians arrived. Although his legs were slightly bruised, there were no broken bones, and his death was caused by the fractured skull.

The accident is one of the most tragic this community has ever had. — Mt. Lake Observer.
