ELIZABETH FAST

Elizabeth Eitzen Fast, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Flaming) Eitzen, was born Dec. 28, 1893, in Watonwan County, Minn. She received her education in a rural country school.

She was baptized upon confession of her faith on June 1, 1914, in the Bergfelder (now Gospel) Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake, Minn. Later she transferred her membership to Bethel Mennonite Church, Mt. Lake, where she remained a faithful member.

In 1925 she graduated from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Newton, Kan. She was ordained a deaconess May 29, 1927, and worked as a nurse in Newton and Mt. Lake until her marriage on April 21, 1930, to David H. Fast in Mt. Lake. She later resumed her nursing duties and retired in 1955. During retirement , she knitted many mittens for MCC relief.

She suffered a stroke in June 1985 and lived the remainder of her life at Good Samaritan Village, Mt. Lake, where she died Nov. 27, 1990, at age 96.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, John E. Jantzen, of Mt. Lake; two stepdaughters, Erna Fast of Hutchinson, Kan., and Salome and husband Justus Holsinger of Hesston, Kan.; two stepsons, Marvin Fast of Ft. Washington, Md., and Willard Fast and his wife, Betty, of Battle Creek, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Vivian Eitzen of Mt. Lake

She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 5, 1960, 11 brothers, five sisters, one stepson and two daughters-in-law.
