MRS. EMILIE MILLER EWY

Emilie Miller Ewy, daughter of Jacob and Katherine Miller, was born in Podusilna, Galicia, Austria, on February 14, 1878.

When she was five years of age her parents her parents migrated to America and located in Harvey county, Kansas. Two years later they moved to a farm near Arlington. On August 2, 1896, she was baptized and joined the Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie, since there was no church of her faith near her home. Later, on November 30, 1905, she transferred her membership to the Arlington Mennonite church, where she was a loyal worker the rest of her life.

On October 24, 1901, she was united in marriage to Gustav L. Ewy and they established their home near Arlington, where they lived for nearly 46 years. Of the eight children born in his home, six are living. Those who preceded their mother in death are Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and Linda, Mrs. Jasper Dunn, who passed away on June 11, 1946.

On the morning of September 29, 1947, she underwent a major operation at Hutchinson, Kansas. That same afternoon her call came, and she was permitted to slip quietly into the beyond.

The gateway of this earthly life has closed behind her, but her quiet strength, her practical Christian faith, and her devotion to her home and church will be long reflected in the lives of those who loved her. Her immediate family include her husband, two daughters, Clara (Mrs. James Lawson of Moundridge) and Elma, (Mrs. Walter Murphy of Pretty Prairie): four sons, Albert of Hutchinson, Marvin of Fowler, Eddie of Arlington, and Lester of Partridge; 14 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. G. A. Bartel of Aberdeen, Idaho.
