AUGUST EWY

August Ewy, oldest son of Jacob J. and Minnie Hubin Ewy, was born on Apr. 22, 1900 near Buhler, Kan. He grew up on a farm near Moundridge with his brothers and sisters, attending country school at District 43.

On Jan. 14, 1925 he and Berniece Reif exchanged marriage vows at Hesston, Kan. They were engaged in farming and the operation of a small hatchery in the Moundridge community until 1948. From that time until retirement in 1975 he served Moundridge and the surrounding communities as an electrician. He was a quiet, unassuming man whose life revolved around his home, his family, his church and his work.

He was baptized on May 9, 1915 and became a member of the Garden Mennonite Church. In 1930 he transferred his membership to the West Zion Mennonite Church where he was an active member until his death at Mercy Hospital on Feb. 14, 1977, after a short illness at the age of 76.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his widow, who shared his life for 52 years, two daughters, Lois and husband James Hauder of Mabel, Minn. and Algalene and husband Gail Reif of Sacramento, Calif.; three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Herman and wife Alieda of Wichita, Waldo and Albert and wife Marie of Moundridge; two sisters, Clara and husband Adolph Bachman of Moundridge and Mrs. Esther Hostetler of Mesa, Ariz.
