P. P. EWERT

Peter P. Ewert, son of Henry D. and Helena Penner Ewert, was born on Jan. 26, 1896, near Hillsboro, Kan. He received elementary education in a rural school in the Brudertal community. He also attended Bible school in Hillsboro for two years. During the First World War he was drafted and he spent some time in camp at Fort Riley as a conscientious objector.

Upon his confession of faith in Christ as his Savior, he was baptized by the Elder Wm. J. Ewert on June 13, 1915, and received into the membership of the Brudertal Mennonite church. He remained a faithful member here until his death.

He was united in marriage to Emma Frantz on Oct. 17, 1920. They shared the joys and sorrows of married life for a period of nearly 40 years. To this union were born two daughters, Hulda Annetta and Viola Mae. The former died in infancy.

The first ten years of their married life was spent on a farm in the Brudertal community. In 1930 they moved to Dalhart, Texas, where they resided for a period of three and one-half years. After this they lived for five years near Orienta, Okla. In 1938 they returned to the Brudertal community to live on the farm on which they resided till his death.

On July 18 his wife Emma preceded him in death. This left a lonely spot in his life. He enjoyed good health until about six years ago, when he suffered a heart attack, due perhaps to his diabetic condition. He recovered from this and was able to do his farm work until Aug. 3, when he again had another heart attack which weakened him. He was cared for by his daughter and son-in-law in his home for a little over two weeks. On Aug. 22, he had another heart attack, from which he never recovered. He reached the age of 64 years, six months, and 24 days.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He expressed much love and patience to his grandchildren. He meant much to them and will be greatly missed by them. he was a loyal follower of Christ and served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his daughter Viola Mae and husband John F. Andreas, four grandchildren, four sisters, two brothers, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Brudertal Mennonite Church on Aug. 20, with Rev. Walter Neufeld officiating.
