Pioneer South Dakota Settler Dies, Age 88

Marion, S. D. — Another of the few remaining pioneers who migrated to this area from Russian Poland in 1874 was called away in death recently.

Julius J. Ewert, 88, died Dec. 15 at the home for aged here. Funeral services were conducted at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Dolton, where he had been a long-time member.

Mr. Ewert came to this country with his parents as an infant and the family settled at Yankton. His mother died a short time later, and the family moved to McCook county where he grew up. He and his wife, the former Franney [sic Freni] Schwartz, farmed near Dolton for many years. They retired and moved to Marion in 1944.

Mrs. Ewert died in 1947. Surviving are their two sons, Bernhart [sic Bernhard] of Sioux Falls and Alfred of Marion, and their families; two sisters and one brother.
