ARTHUR RICHARD EPP

Arthur Richard Epp of Leamington, Ont. passed away July 20. He was born Dec. 5, 1915 to Dietrich D. and Barbara M. Epp in Lushton NE. He grew up on a nearby farm and attended Bethesda Mennonite Church, where his grandfather Heinrich H. Epp was minister. His mother died when he was 9. His father later married Agnes Rempel. Following graduation from high school, he worked on his father's farm for 3 years. He studied engineering at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln 1936-39. In June, 1939, on the first day of a visit to his father and stepmother in Leamington, he met Sally Cornies. They married June 7,1941 in Leamington United Mennonite Church. They lived in Leamington. He worked as a tool and die maker and then quality control technician for Ford Motor Co. in Windsor, Ont., retiring in 1974. He was baptized June 1, 1941. He served the Lord as Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer, deacon and usher. He would often stay up all night working on his five-minute talks to children. They consistently welcomed church newcomers to their home for lunch and light-hearted conversation. Predeceased by son Robert in 1976 and 2 brothers, he is survived by his wife; stepmother of Uxbridge, Ont.; children Gerry of Hesston, KS, Roger of Leamington, Alan of St. Ann's, Ont., Cindy Johnston of Winnipeg and Susan Klassen of Carman, Man.; 15 grandchildren; 1 brother; 2 sisters and 2 half-brothers.
