MRS. LENA FLAMING ENTZ

Mrs. Lena Flaming Entz, daughter of Henry and Magdalena Janzen Flaming, was born in Cuban, South Russia on August 20, 1878, and came to this country as an infant child. Her parents established their home near Tampa, Kansas. Her mother passed away on Dec. 10, 1879, when she was only 16 months old. She received a step-mother in Anna Friesen Harms on Nov. 2, 1882, who also passed away when mother was only ten years old. Her father passed away on April 19, 1912.

In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Rev. Jacob Erlich on April 3, 1893, and received into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren church of the Tampa community. Upon marriage she transferred her membership to the Mennonite Brethren church of Buhler, Kansas. In 1921 when the Inman Mennonite church was organized, she with our father affiliated as charter members of this congregation. She remained a faithful member until her death. She taught a Sunday school class for many years and took an active part in other church activities, especially in the women's mission society where she was active until her health no longer permitted.

On Jan. 2, 1899, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry W. Entz with whom she was privileged to share joys and sorrows of life for 60 years, less two months. This union was blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter. Two sons preceded her in death during their infancy. In 1949 we had the privilege to commemorate our 50th anniversary.

Mother showed us much love and was much concerned about our spiritual welfare. The last three years she suffered with cancer, but she continued to place her steadfast faith in the Lord, ever seeking the will of god. She was of a cheerful nature and usually had a smile upon her face even in her suffering. She was very appreciative of all the visits, cards, flowers and prayers.

Mother entered the Grace hospital on Sept. 3. She was dismissed on Sept. 22 and was taken to the home of her daughter where she spent her last five weeks. On Oct. 27, 1958, at 4:00 a. m. she went into a coma from which she quietly slipped away at 9:30 the same morning to her eternal reward, attaining the age of 80 years, two months and seven days.

Even though we miss her loving smile and presence we rejoice that she has gained the victory and we all hope to meet her some day. Left to mourn her passing are her beloved husband, Henry W. Entz; the children, Abe L. and wife Leona Entz of Hutchinson, Clara and husband Aaron H. Willems of Conway, Kansas, Harry H. and wife Florence Entz of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Haas of Talmage, Kansas and Mrs. Justina Leppke of Minneapolis, Minn., and many relatives and friends. — The Family.
