John Enns

John Enns of Sanford, FL passed away Dec. 17. He was born July 31, 1929 in Steinbach, Man. The family moved to Ontario when he was young. In 1950 he married Hedy Friesen in Virgil (Ont.) MB Church. In 1956 they became full-time missionaries to Brazil under New Tribes Mission. They did pioneer work with the Yanomami tribe in the Amazon until 1971 when he almost died of cerebral malaria. Then he helped train missionaries in southern Brazil until health problems forced another change in 19S0. When he recovered, they opened another NTM field in Liberia, serving for two years. They were members of Grantham MB Church in St. Catharines until they took medical retirement in 19S5, moving to a cattle farm in Mississippi. Back problems forced him to sell the farm and move to Florida, where cancer was diagnosed 11 days before he died. He is mourned by his wife; children Theo, Marianne K., John, Paul, Marcy S., Lori B., Joel, Leonard, Gwen H., Larry and Barney, 7 of whom are serving with New Tribes Mission; 24 grandchildren; and 9 brothers and sisters. The funeral was in the New Tribes Mission chapel, Sanford , with Mel Wyma ministering.
