GEORGE G. ENNS

George G. Enns of Winkler, Man. went to be with his Redeemer on October 24. He was born November 27, 1910 to Gerhard F. and Anna (nee Janzen) Enns in what was then called New Reinland (Meath, South Dakota). He had his elementary schooling there, and continued to study physiotherapy and electronics by correspondence. In June 1929 he accepted the Lord Jesus as his Saviour during revival meetings conducted by the late missionary Frank G. Wiens. A month later he was baptized and received into the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. Since that time he has continued to serve in the church in various capacities. For the last seven years he sang bass in the Senior MB Male Quartette. On June 13, 1943 he married Esther Voth. They made their home on a new farm site in New Reinland, and worked the farm until moving to Winkler in 1974. Among his many personal interests was collecting and cataloguing Indian artifacts. An operation in September 1978 revealed cancer.

His family remembers him as a loving, patient and helpful husband and father. He leaves to mourn his wife Esther; daughter Julianna and Hendrik Herfst of Saskatoon; son Steve and Marion of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, one sister, one brother-in law and many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held October 29, 1978 in the Winkler church, with pastor John D. Stoesz officiating.
