MRS. CATHERINE ENNS

(Mrs.) Catherine Enns was born on March 19,1885 in Wernersdorf, Ukraine, the daughter of Wilhelm and Elizabeth (nee Steffen) Peters. In her youth she surrendered her life to God and was baptized on the confession of her faith. In 1911 she married John Enns, a widower with two small children to whom she was a faithful mother. The couple was blessed with nine children.

In 1925 the Enns left Russia with their family, and moved to Canada. They settled in Coaldale where Mrs. Enns lived until her passing. In the difficult years of pioneering, life was not easy for her with a big family to care for, but her faith in God and her quiet, uncomplaining spirit helped her through those times. She attended church as long as she was able. Her faith was renewed by reading hymns and God's Word. Being quiet and optimistic by nature, she was an example to her family in gratitude and faith.

The Word of the Lord in Isaiah 54:10 was one of her favorites. The Lord called her home on May 5. A funeral service was held on May 8 in the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church with Rudy Heidebrecht and Peter Petker officiating.

She is mourned, but not without hope, by one son, John and his wife Margaret; one daughter·in.law, Mary Enns; seven daugh· ters, Tina (Mrs. Abe) Goerzen, Agnes, Anna (Mrs. John) Wall, Elizabeth (Mrs. Edward) Martens, Mary (Mrs . David) Balzer, Margaret and Susie; 26 grandchildren; 17 great· grandchildren; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband John, in 1958, by one daughter and two sons.
