MADISON OSCAR ELLISON

Madison Oscar Ellison was born at Boomer, West Virginia on Dec 29, 1904, and died at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Ill. on Feb 14, 1970, having attained the age of 65 years. His parents were John Franklin and Lucy Adams Ellison.

He was married on Nov. 24, 1935 to Susey [sic Susie] Kraemer, who came from a long line of Summerfield Mennonites. The Ellisons had three children. One daughter died in childbirth. Another daughter, Ruth Deutchman [sic Deutschmann] lives at New Baden, Ill. A son, Oscar E. Ellison, lives on the family farm south of Summerfield. There are five grandchildren. Eight sisters and a brother preceded him in death, leaving one brother and three sisters.

Ellison worked for many years in a southern Illinois coal mine, then as a produce farmer, and in the past several decades built up one of the largest mink farms in the St. Louis vicinity. He was baptized in the Summerfield Mennonite Church, and was buried in the Mennonite section of the Summerfield Cemetery.

Last rites were conducted in the Summerfield Mennonite Church by the pastor, Rev. C. O. Basinger.
