PETER EITZEN

Peter Eitzen, 92, of Mountain Lake, Minn., died oct. 6, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. He was born Jan. 4, 1905, to David Peter and Elizabeth (Nickel) Eitzen on a farm north of Mountain Lake. He received his education at a country school near his home, the German School in Mountain Lake and a Bible institute in Minneapolis.

He was baptized and accepted into Bergfelder Mennonite Church, now Gospel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, where he remained a faithful member until his death. He also attended Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft.

Peter married Susie Harder at Bergfelder Mennonite Church in Delft on March 13, 1929. They were married for more than 68 years. They lived on a farm near Delft for many years. In 1940 they moved to a farm near Mountain Lake and lived there until moving to the city in 1970. They spent many happy winters at their mobile home in Mesa, Ariz.

Peter was a farmer most of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, was quite ingenious at making things, and was a tinkerer. He enjoyed music, and as a young man was a member of a quartet with his brother, David. He was a Sunday school teacher and choir director at the Delft Church as well as directing the men's and ladies' choirs at Gospel Mennonite Church. Peter enjoyed driving the school bus for the Mountain Lake School District.

He is survived by his wife, Susie; three daughters, Beulah Kroeker and husband Ellsworth of Mountain Lake, Lois Klippenstein and husband Ervin of Fullerton, Calif., and Ruth Fast and husband, LaVerne of t San Diego; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin of Mountain Lake. He was preceded in death by a son, Gordon; two brothers and a sister.
