Explosion Fatal to Montana Resident

MRS. A. C. EDIGER FATALLY BURNED WHEN CLEANING GAS IGNITES

Wolf Point, Mont. — Mrs. A. C. Ediger, 61, was fatally burned Friday, January 3, 1947, at her home on the north side of Wolf Point when a pan of cleaning gas exploded while she was cleaning clothes in a shed at the rear of the house.

Mrs. Ediger was in the process of cleaning a woolen garment when the explosion occurred, spraying her with the burning liquid, igniting her clothing and hair and inflicting third degree burns on the greater portion of her body and head.

In an effort to extinguish the flames enveloped his wife’s body, Mr. Ediger received severe burns on his hands, arms, face and head. His attempts to put out the fire were successful and Mrs. Ediger was rushed by ambulance to the Trinity hospital, Wolf Point, where she died six hours later.

Mr. Ediger was confined to the hospital for some time and his recovery is progressing satisfactorily. He was able to attend the funeral, which was held at the Assembly of God church in Wolf Point on January 9, 1947, with Rev. Claud Myers and Rev. Art Flaming of Lustre officiating. Many acquaintances from the Lustre and Volt communities attend the funeral.

The Ediger home is considered practically a total loss as a result of the fire, with the whole interior and furnishings very badly burned and scorched.

Sarah Theseman was born May 5, 1885, in York county, Nebraska. She received her education there and worked as a nurse at Enid, Oklahoma, for ten years before her marriage September 3, 1916, to Abram C. Ediger at Enid. In 1917 they moved to a farm near Wolf Point where they resided until four years ago, when the retired from the farm, and moved to Wolf Point. She was a member of the M. B. Church.

She died January 3, 1947, at the Trinity hospital six hours after the gasoline explosion.

She is survived by her husband, Abram C. Ediger, Wolf Point, Mrs. Alfred Quiring, Glasgow; Mrs. Abe Fast, Inman, Kansas; and John a. Ediger, of Wolf Point; three brothers, Henry Theseman of California, Jacob and Frank Theseman of Enid, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Huebert of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Marvin Gade of Lynwood, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
